Non-Surgical Skin Tightening & Resurfacing

The Plexr Protocol

Plasma technology that tightens, resurfaces, and renews — without a single cut.
Sheridan, Wyoming's most comprehensive Plexr resource.

The Science

What Is Plexr?

Plexr — sometimes called plasma pen or plasma resurfacing — is a non-invasive skin tightening technology that uses ionized plasma to treat the skin's surface and sub-surface without cutting, burning, or ablating tissue in the traditional sense.

The Plexr device generates a micro-beam of ionized gas (plasma) between its tip and the skin. This plasma creates a micro-trauma at the exact point of contact — a tiny arc of energy that causes the skin to sublimate: it transitions from solid directly to gas, removing a microscopic column of tissue while heating the surrounding area enough to trigger immediate contraction and collagen remodeling.

The result is controlled, precise skin ablation with minimal thermal spread to surrounding tissue. Each treatment point stimulates a healing cascade: inflammation, neocollagenesis (new collagen formation), and tissue contraction over the weeks that follow.

Unlike laser, which uses light energy absorbed by water or melanin, or RF (radiofrequency) which heats tissue from below, Plexr works at the surface with pinpoint accuracy. It's particularly effective in delicate areas — eyelids, perioral skin, the neck — where bulk heating devices carry higher risk and less precision.

What to Expect

The Procedure

A Plexr treatment is a deliberate, precise experience. Here's exactly what happens on the day of your session at Anova.

01

Consultation & Mapping

Before any treatment, your Certified NP assesses your skin, reviews your goals, and maps the treatment area. The number of micro-arcs needed is calculated based on your anatomy and desired outcome. This is not a one-size-fits-all protocol – your plan is specific to you.

02

Topical Anesthesia

A topical numbing cream is applied to the treatment area and allowed to sit for 20–30 minutes. For most treatment areas, this is sufficient. Some clients with lower pain thresholds request additional measures – we discuss this at your consultation.

03

The Plasma Application

The Plexr device is held at a precise distance from the skin – never touching, but close enough for the plasma arc to bridge the gap. Your provider makes hundreds of micro-applications across the treatment area in a systematic pattern. The process is quiet; you may feel warmth, a pricking sensation, and see small carbon crusts form at each application point.

Treatment depth is controlled by the provider through device settings and technique. Each session typically lasts 20–50 minutes depending on the area size.

04

Post-Treatment Application

After the session, a calming serum and SPF are applied. You may be given a medical-grade recovery balm to apply at home. You leave with explicit aftercare instructions and a follow-up schedule.

Applications

What Does Plexr Treat?

Plexr addresses a wide range of concerns across the face and body. These are the most common treatment areas.

Eyelid Tightening (Upper & Lower)

The most requested Plexr treatment. Plasma applications along the upper and lower eyelid skin cause tissue contraction, reducing hooding, under-eye bags, and loose skin. Results comparable to blepharoplasty without surgery. Most clients need 1–3 sessions spaced 6–8 weeks apart.

Perioral Lines & Smoker's Lines

Vertical lines above the lip respond well to Plexr because the plasma can target very precisely without affecting surrounding tissue. Unlike fillers, which add volume, Plexr stimulates the skin to tighten and remodel, reducing line depth over multiple sessions.

Neck & Décolletage

The neck often shows aging before the face – horizontal banding, crepe texture, sun damage. Plexr is one of the few treatments that works safely and effectively on neck skin. Results require 2–4 sessions and significant commitment to SPF afterward.

Acne Scars & Textural Irregularities

The micro-injuries created by plasma applications remodel scar tissue over time. Works on rolling scars, boxcar scars, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Typically requires 3–6 sessions.

Skin Tags & Benign Lesions

Plexr excels at removing skin tags, millia, seborrheic keratoses, and small benign growths with precision. The plasma tip can target single points of tissue without affecting surrounding skin – far more controlled than liquid nitrogen cryotherapy. Most lesions resolve in one session.

Stretch Marks & Scar Revision

Old white or silver stretch marks and surgical scars respond to plasma treatment by stimulating collagen within the scar tissue, reducing depth and improving color. The scar must be fully matured (at least 6 months old). 3–5 sessions typically required for meaningful improvement.

Pigmentation & Sun Damage

Plasma treatment breaks up excess melanin in the skin's surface, improving solar lentigines (sun spots), melasma, and uneven skin tone. Works well on the face, hands, and chest. Often combined with a medical-grade skincare protocol for sustained results.

Jawline & Lower Face Tightening

Plexr can be used along the jawline and lower face to create a subtle tightening effect, reducing the appearance of early jowling and improving the definition of the jaw angle. Results are modest compared to a surgical face lift but meaningful for those with mild-to-moderate skin laxity.

What to Expect After

Recovery & Downtime

Let's be honest: Plexr requires recovery. The results are worth it – but you should know what you're signing up for before you book.

Day 1–3

The Carbon Crust Phase

Immediately after treatment, the skin shows tiny brown/black carbon crusts at each treatment point – approximately 0.5–1mm in diameter. This is expected and intentional. The crusts are the tissue that was ablated. They should not be picked, scrubbed, or aggressively moisturized. Your skin will feel tight, warm, and slightly swollen.

  • Do not pick the carbon crusts – they fall off naturally over 5–10 days
  • Apply only the provided balm or a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer
  • Sleep slightly elevated to minimize swelling
  • Avoid touching your face unnecessarily
  • No makeup over treated areas until crusts have fully resolved
Day 4–14

The Renewal Phase

Crusts begin to shed. Underneath, the skin appears pink and fresh. This new skin is delicate and photosensitive. Strict SPF 50+ is non-negotiable. Some clients describe a "dry sandpaper" texture as the last crusts resolve.

  • Continue SPF 50+ – new skin burns easily
  • Use only gentle, medical-grade skincare products
  • Avoid exfoliants, retinoids, and active acids until cleared
  • Light swelling typically resolves by day 7–10
  • Most clients feel comfortable in public by day 7–10 (with makeup)
Weeks 3–8

The Remodeling Phase

This is where the magic happens. The micro-trauma created by plasma triggers a sustained healing response – collagen and elastin fibers reorganize, skin tightens, and texture improves. You won't see the full result for 6–12 weeks. Be patient. The wait is part of the process.

  • Results continue to improve through week 12
  • Collagen remodeling is a slow process – this is normal and expected
  • You can resume normal skincare and exercise by week 3
  • Next session, if needed, typically scheduled at 6–8 week mark
Important: Plexr results depend heavily on aftercare compliance. Clients who don't follow SPF and post-treatment protocols see significantly reduced results and higher risk of pigmentation complications. We'll review your aftercare plan in detail at your consultation.

When You'll See It

Results: Timeline & Longevity

Plexr results are not instant – they're biological. The plasma creates a wound response, and biology takes time. Understanding the timeline prevents disappointment and sets accurate expectations.

When You'll See Results

Immediately after crusts resolve (2–4 weeks) – Skin appears tighter and smoother than before treatment, but this is just the initial contraction phase.
At 6–8 weeks – Collagen remodeling begins to show. Results become more apparent – smoother texture, reduced scarring, improved pigmentation.
At 3–4 months – The full effect of a single session typically peaks at 12–16 weeks. For most clients, this represents the majority of achievable improvement from one treatment.
After full course (multiple sessions) – If multiple sessions are needed, the final outcome is assessed 3 months after the last session. Combined protocols can produce results that rival surgical outcomes for mild-to-moderate skin laxity.

How Long Results Last

Plexr results are long-lasting – typically 12–24 months – because the treatment addresses the skin itself, not just surface appearance. However, the skin continues to age. Sun damage, gravity, and natural collagen loss resume after treatment. Maintenance sessions every 12–18 months are recommended to sustain optimal results.

Significant sun exposure or smoking will shorten the lifespan of your results considerably. We strongly recommend ZO® Skin Health products and consistent SPF as part of your long-term skin maintenance protocol.

How It Stacks Up

Plexr vs. The Alternatives

Choosing a skin treatment means understanding what each technology does – and doesn't – accomplish. Here's how Plexr compares to the options you're likely considering.

Plexr Plasma Surgical Blepharoplasty Laser Resurfacing
Recovery time5–14 days (visible healing)2–4 weeks7–21 days (full ablation)
AnesthesiaTopical onlyGeneral or IV sedationTopical + optional nerve block

The bottom line: If you're not ready for surgery, Plexr is the most effective non-surgical option for eyelid tightening and delicate facial skin. It's more precise than laser around the eyes, has stronger tightening effects than other non-surgical options, and doesn't require sedation. The trade-off is the carbon crust recovery – which is real, and which you should plan for.

Are You a Fit?

Who Is an Ideal Candidate?

Good Candidates

  • Mild to moderate skin laxity – not severe enough for surgery
  • Upper eyelid hooding that doesn't fully obstruct vision (severe cases need surgery)
  • Realistic expectations – Plexr improves, it doesn't perform miracles
  • Willing to follow aftercare – especially strict SPF for 3+ months post-treatment
  • Non-smoker (smoking dramatically reduces results and increases complications)
  • Generally healthy with no active skin infections or autoimmune flares
  • Fitzpatrick types I–III (higher types carry increased hyperpigmentation risk – discuss with your provider)

Less Ideal Candidates

  • Severe eyelid hooding requiring functional blepharoplasty (insurance may cover if vision is impaired)
  • Active keloid scarring tendency – discuss with provider first
  • Darker Fitzpatrick types (IV–VI) without pre-treatment skin prep – higher risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation
  • Unrealistic expectations about dramatic surgical-like results from a non-invasive treatment
  • Unwilling to commit to the downtime and aftercare requirements
